… a Designer is a problem solver by nature

Design to me is about creating the best possible working solution to a problem. In essence a Designer is a problem solver by nature.

When I studied Graphic Design I could have never imagined where “Multimedia Design” (as it was called back then) would take us. I clearly remember starting my first job as an intern at an agency. They had a small team of Designers and programmers that created interactive CD-Roms (presentations) for companies like NS, KLM and ING.

To me that was a magical place. Going from paper sketches to Designing screens in Photoshop, to Macromedia Director where interactions and animations where programmed. All of these Magical Tools and skills I didn’t learn about at Graphic Design School. And right thereI knew, this is what I wanted to do.

Even now, after over 25 years of Designing and building Digital services and products for clients like Bol.com, ING, Ahold Delhaize, liberty Global and many, many more. It still excites me to discover tools that raise the bar and help us in making our Design jobs awesome.

I built Design systems that blur the lines between Brand, Design and Development. By Integrating these systems into Component libraries it provides teams the ability to prototype and deploy experiences with just a few clicks. And with machine learning making it's way into our tooling, we can even start to automate parts of these workflows!.

All of these solutions and tools give product teams more time to solve problems and embrace their creativity. Instead of spending days drawing massive amounts of grey boxes and arrows, just to be discarded just as quick.

I couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store for us as Designers. One thing is certain, it will be one hell of a ride!

I would love to help you with your design strategy, design, build design systems and help mature design teams in any way I can.

Let’s have a coffee and chat about your design challenge.

Interested in having a chat? We are always open for discussing new projects, ideas, questions or opportunities. And we probably like to be part of your event too!
